That desire felt by imperialist Europeans when
\nFirst discovering a resource rich region
\nWith a population still primarily organized along tribal lines
\nAnd no modern military apparatus
\nIs nothing next what I felt when I first laid eyes upon you.<\/p>\n

My heart burns hotter for you
\nThan the napalm dropped
\nOn civilian non-combatants and crops
\nOf Vietnamese and Cambodians
\nSo that the U.S. could maintain
\nMilitary and economic influence
\nNear the regional centers
\nbetween with the world\u2019s largest populaces.<\/p>\n

Oh so unlike the hundreds of bodies
\nOf indigenous Guatemalan villagers
\nTortured, killed and dumped in mass graves
\nBy soldiers trained
\nAt the School of the Americas
\nIn order to protect U.S. investments
\nAnd overthrow yet another democratically elected
\nAvowedly socialist government,
\nI\u2019ve never tried to hide my feelings for you.<\/p>\n

Whereas newspapers
\nSuch as the Wall Street Journal,
\nWashington Post and New York Times
\nAll publish to serve the interests of the capitalists that
\nControl the world\u2019s countries through their political cronies –
\nI have never said a word that could be construed as a lie
\nSo when I say that I love you until the end of my life
\nYou know that this is true.<\/p>\n

Whenever I am around you
\nI feel like I am glowing \u2013
\nA sensation similarly reported by those children
\nThat have spent time playing on and around
\nThe Russian tanks destroyed by the US\u2019s
\nDepleted uranium shells in Iraq during
\nThe first Gulf War \u2013
\nAnd my life anxieties disappear
\nLike environmental activists in
\nSouth and Central America and Africa trying
\nTo bring attention to the dispossession of indigenous peoples
\nAnd the destruction of their means of subsistence
\nFor the benefit of foreign oil and mineral corporations.<\/p>\n

Though you\u2019ll never depend on me
\nIn the same way that many
\nThird world satraps of US interest do \u2013
\nFor I cannot provide you with loans, guns, tanks, bombs
\nComputers, training, helicopters to throw dissidents out of,
\nLists of people to be dealt with and other such spook stuff \u2013
\nI hope you know that should things ever get rough
\nI will be the rock on which you can rely upon.<\/p>\n
